Why have we introduced these changes?
We see the study text and assessment as one coherent course of learning, measurement and recognition. The best way to deliver our units is therefore by including all core elements of the course in the unit registration.
The registration onto a unit also contains the online study tool RevisionMate which hosts a range of support materials including: study planner and tips, student discussion forum, quiz questions, exam guides and, new for 2018, a free eBook version of the study text for use on a smartphone or tablet.
Also, by registering in this way you will receive emails updating you of any changes to the learning content or assessment position such as legislative change, and when this will be tested from.
What are the benefits for learners?
● For units delivered in this way for the first time in 2018 the registration costs less than buying the items separately
● Confidence that they are learning from the correct version of the text
● Access to RevisionMate with chapter quizzes, information and discussion forum
● Update emails when qualification content changes that draw students’ attention to the qualification updates (e.g. any updates to learning and/or assessment because of new legislation or tax position)
● Free eBook to download in addition to the printed text for use on a smartphone or tablet.
● Free exam guide
Is this an unusual approach for an awarding organisation/professional body?
No, the combination of text and assessment is a frequent practice for professional bodies, both within this sector and beyond, and we have seen it work successfully when applied to several new unit launches over the last few years.
What if I just want to use the study text for reference purposes?
Over the next few weeks we will publish the entire library of CII study texts digitally. These will be available free of charge to all CII and PFS members on our website.
I already have a current study text; do I need to buy the new type of registration?
No. You already have the study text and can enter the exam/assessment by contacting our Customer Service team or visiting our website and navigating to the relevant unit’s shop page.
I have a recently expired study text enrolment; do I need to buy the new type of registration?
No. Having the correct version of the text (and access to the latest online resources via RevisionMate) is important. You should upgrade our study text to the next edition and then you will be able to enter for the exam/assessment. This is significantly cheaper than buying a new registration. Please contact our Customer Service team.
I sat the exam recently and need to resit it, do I need to buy the type of registration?
No. Although we would encourage you to use the latest study material we also appreciate that you sat your exam before we introduced these changes so you will be able to book your resit by contacting our Customer Service team.
